Licensing for client work, explained in plain language
What you can hand over, what stays with you, and how to answer the brand manager who asks “do we own this?”
You deliver the video, not the project
The licence you buy covers the rendered output. The editable project file remains licensed to you, not transferred to the client. Handing over the .aep means handing over our template, which the licence does not allow — for the same reason you would not pass on a purchased font file.
Answering the ownership question
A brand manager asking “do we own this?” usually means “can we reuse it without you and is it safe to publish?”. The answer is yes to both: the finished video is theirs to use indefinitely, and the licence certificate proves the template was obtained legally. What they do not receive is the editable source of the template itself.
If a client genuinely needs the editable project, we can quote a buyout. Email us before you promise it.
Keep the paperwork
Download the licence certificate at the time of purchase and store it with the project. Two years later, when a platform asks for proof of rights, a screenshot of an email is far less useful than the certificate with the order number on it.
